My Rogue Husband & Reflections On Family Reunions
Having a blog provides me a platform to express my thoughts and the things stirring in my heart. I’m thankful for it, and always weigh my posts because I recognize the responsibility that comes with any platform no matter how large or small.
Can we just talk about my husband for a moment though? I’m going to pull back the curtain to our life and allow you to peak inside. Here’s why:  Yesterday we attended a family reunion with folks he hasn’t seen in over 20 years. He hasn’t seen his dad in over 13. Of course this was the first time I met this really sweet group of people. They were lovely.
However something was gnawing at me last night and this morning as I got ready for the day. Several people came up and thanked me for my influence on his life.
Let’s stop there for a moment. Let me explain. My husband was a bad boy growing up. He did a lot of things he wasn’t proud of. That’s not the point to this blog, so I’m not going into it, but after immediately cutting his bad boy days off like a knife through butter, he became a husband and instant father. He lived and lasted 13 years in a marriage that most men would have bailed and nobody would have said a bad thing about it. In the Christian realm, he would of had the nod of approval to file for divorce.
Can I share with you what I wish I would have shared with them yesterday? If I had the formula to change a husband, I’d bottle that thing, sell it and move to Tahiti on my own island. I didn’t change my husband.
When I met Keith I fell in love because he was and is the most generous, thoughtful, unselfish, considerate, sweet man that I’ve ever met. Was he going actively to church? Nope. Did he love Jesus? Yes.
Before you judge what someone’s life looks like on the outside, you may want to sit down and get to know their heart. Â
Keith has been the strongest, most faithful , sweet and godly husband and has exceeded every expectation I ever had.
So before anyone else thinks wrongfully that my presence changed my husband: think again. The only thing I did (and he did for me) was support each other’s dreams, speak Truth into each other’s lives, and try to both stay close to Jesus.
To my sweet husband, who is allowing me to post this and share with the world. Thank you. Everyday you teach me how to be a better woman, a better Christian, and you sure do make my life the most wonderful adventure.
To the world:Â Do not ever underestimate the real man that my husband is.
