A Photographic Guide To Edinburgh

It can be daunting to travel to a new city. Many travelers only have a few days to hit the ground and discover as much of the city as possible. For Americans, traveling across the ocean also means adding in the annoyance of jet lag.

This photography guide will hopefully help you find some of the icons that you won’t want to miss during your trip to Edinburgh.

It’s my hope to continuously update and add to this guide as I find more beautiful spots from which to photograph from.

How Safe Is Edinburgh To Walk

Edinburgh is generally considered by travelers to be a safe place to walk even when it’s dark. Which we know some of the best times to photograph are close to dark requiring some walking to happen at night. The center of the city is usually filled with the hustle and bustle of other tourists which lends for safety in numbers. It’s advisable to stay in well-lit areas. If you see another photographer ask if you can shoot with them.

Although Edinburgh has a low crime rate and violent crime is rare, it’s always smart to stay in well-lit areas after dark. Also be on the lookout for pickpockets…like many cities Scotland has their’s too.
