Shedquarters

It wasn’t long after Keith and I made the decision to step out in faith and have him quit his job so he could operate our business Charleston Photography Tours full time, that we knew we were going to need to expand our office situation.

Hope makes it her job to guard my Shedquarters!

We’ve been blessed with a gorgeous brick home that we bought just before we got married (2.5 years ago). It is situated on a large corner lot with neighbors who have all been in their homes for 20+ years (most of whom we love: major bonus). Our home has 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms. We also have our two teenagers who live with us full time. Hailey (20) who is studying elementary education at University of South Carolina, and Jared (17) is counting down the days until high school is over (he’s a junior), so we have a big need for study space. We struggled for so long just with finding wifi strong enough for the 4 of us, but we did a lot of research and compared starlink vs viasat amongst other internet providers and we’ve finally found internet that can handle everything we all throw at it. The four of us together with our 3 dogs, school, business, and magazines leaves us with pretty hectic schedules.

The fourth bedroom which is directly off our master bedroom acted as my office when I started working with the Landscape Photography Magazine & Wild Planet Photo Magazine. The space worked for a time but with only having one small window to catch the morning sunlight it tended to be a bit dark in there, which conflicted with my desire for a lot of natural light. I really dig cheerful. When Keith began full time with CPT, I talked him into a massive Pinterest project and the conversion of the tool shed into something like those Studio sheds began.

Keith sacrificially gave me his space and began demo day by relocating his tools and pulling out his work bench. We then began putting up insulation and gorgeous white paneling. When we started we set a budget of $800.

I was really wanting a cottage feel with bright white walls with furniture and accents that still cause it to feel warm and cozy (especially on rainy cool days). After insulation, paint, ceiling fan, trim, drapes and my fireplace, we ended over budget and sitting around $2,000. It was worth every penny.

So without further ado, let me take you inside my Shedquarters:

Each morning I trudge out here in my slippers (seen at the door), and curl up on this chair with my Bible and journal. One of the best perks about working from home is that the start time for my workday can be somewhat flexible so that I can sip my coffee and talk with Jesus.

– Yes I am a huge American history fan (hence the picture of George).

– The little bear on the chair is a gift from my brother and is lovingly named ‘Brother Bear’.

– The yoga mat doubles as my prayer mat but I’ll elaborate on that in a different post.

– If you note the dog bed, that’s where Kodah’s spot was everyday. If you missed my post about called “A Life Defined”, go read it and you’ll find out about my sweet Kodah Bear. Anyway, that’s her spot and even though she’s not with us anymore, I’ve laid her paw print, a lock of her hair, her leash and harness all there to keep her close. I’m just not ready to let go yet.

This place has become more than a Shedquarters or glorified office for me. Before starting my first day of work in here and after everything was moved in, I walked around the perimeter of the shed and prayed over it. I asked God to bless all the ideas, dreams and work done in this space and hoped it would give him Glory as I work out . {Side Note: Have you read The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson? The outside of the Shedquarters has a cute black rocking chair that I tend to sit on while Keith does yard work. Avocado hostas outline the small flower bed and surround a hydrangea with growing ivy as a filler. The sign that you see in the Kentucky Whiskey Barrel (that came straight from a distillery) was just one of many signs that were placed in the sand during our beach wedding. I also enjoy having my windows open during the day while working so I can watch the cardinals at the bird feeder.
